OK, by the time this post goes out I will be celebrating another
year older, and hopefully another year wiser (but the
latter is still up for debate ;-)
Here's some of the things I've learnt as I continue my
studies in the University of Life
* stop trying to convince anyone of anything
* try and go with the flow whenever you can. Rowing upstream
only causes you more resistance. However, going with the flow is not the
same as bailing out. Don't be fooled ;-)
*The worst lie you can tell yourself is, "I will
be happier when................"
*I'm learning not to worry about what comes next
* You're never as wrong as when you are sure you are right
(think about it ;-)
*If you don't give with a true sense of joy, don't bother giving
* Logic has it's limits. People who worship logic all the time
tend to suffer in their happiness and relationships
*It's not easy being grateful all the time. But it's when you feel
least thankful that you are most in need of what gratitude can give you
(honestly, it works every time!)
*Goals are good, but don't let them dictate your life.
Sometimes in pursuit of a goal, we miss the real, unexpected
prize which is always better
*It's great to have an edge, but if you are too sharp you will cut the
people around you
* The Universe whispers to you first. Then it taps you on the
shoulder. If you're still not listening it will punch you
in the gut and drop you to your knees! So pay
attention to your instincts (they are your
messengers)
* Buying jewelry is like buying jeans. The budget
is different, but once you know what suits you. it's easy :-)
(You go little girl !!)
* Style cannot be bought; it's something you learn.
It's ever evolving. You'll make some big style mistakes
that you will learn from, but which will also make you
belly laugh in years to come.
(yearning for)
* Logic will take you from A to B.
Imagination will take you everywhere
(OK, I'm imagining this bag on my arm this summer ;-)
* For me the word "doubt" means don't. Don't move.
Don't answer. Don't rush forward
(A mantra to live by)
I would love to hear what the University
of Life has definitely taught you.

Happy Birthday! Hope you have the most excellent day. And remember, older also means wiser! Age is a state of mind, keep yours young and you will be great!!
ReplyDeleteTYSM Sweets. I keep reminding myself age is only a number. It's not working yet ;-) xx
DeleteHAPPY BIRTHDAY VANESSA! Hope you're having the most fabulous day. Lovely images as ever! I just think that we have to grab every opportunity to laugh and enjoy life no matter what, because it's over all too soon. If you can show some generosity and kindness on the way, don't just think it - do it!
ReplyDeleteYou are SO right SK. Thank you as always for stopping by xx
DeleteHappy Birthday my dear friend!! "University of Life" oh how those 3 words brought back memories ... my Father use to say --- "You can get all the degrees you want (and you better get at least one), But it's the University of Life, that will teach the most". So, so true...
ReplyDeleteThe University of Life has certainly taught me that just when you think life is the way you want it ... something or someone will come along and send you in a different direction. So, I'm learning to embrace where life sends me and live the moments before they become different again.
Many blessings on your Birthday and the week-end ahead, xo C, (HHL)
P.S. The postman is not my fav person at the moment; not has your cd not been delivered ... I'm waiting on numerous other items that have been sent :( ... will keep you posted. xo
TYSM Lovely. I have a wonderful day.
DeleteHubs checked our end last week, and the tracking system could only tell us it arrived in Canada sometime ago. But if the post-office doesn't scan the bar-code in Canada, we can't follow it any further. Fingers crossed and sending positive vibes it arrives shortly xx
I wish you a very Happy Birthday! Enjoy!!! I hope you get that Chanel bag. :)
ReplyDeleteTYSM Leigh. Hubs has said I can have the bag OR 1 month in Mallorca before returning to the UK. Now I'm really confused ;-)

DeleteHappiest of Birthdays to you, darling! :-) I love these things you've shared and feel inspired during this sleepless night of mine. :-) I've learned that until you're dead there is always, ALWAYS hope. Always. :-) XO
ReplyDeleteWow! so profound Krista xx
DeleteHappy Birthday, Van! Besides the Chanel pictures, my favorite is a reminder to net let our dreams distract us from the practical business of life (like making dinner!). May you be blessed with a year full of dreaming and thoughtful contemplation, and may you also be blessed with the resources and assertiveness to make some of those dreams a reality!
ReplyDeleteTYSM Rebekah for your lovely words of advice xx
DeleteHi Vanessa! I hope you had a beautiful birthday! I have say, and I could say it over and over....I love your blog! I always feel so good after I read it. I like the way you think. ReplyDeleteBlessing to you,
Dee xoxo
TYSM Dee! You are always such an incredible supporter xx
DeleteHappy Birthday sweetie (even if I´m a little bit late for the party :) I couldn't agree more with all your words and I wish that life brings you even more wisdom, happiness and a sense of fulfillment. What the University of Life thaught me so far is that everything happens for a reason, even if we can't see that reason immediately. And that crisis brings always new opportunities, and we have to try and find them instead of wallowing in your sadness and disappointment. And I hope to learn many many more things!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful day (and week, and year), Vanessa!
Big hugs
xx Ivana

DeleteHAPPY (belated) BIRTHDAY POPPET!
ReplyDeleteWishing you many wonderful days filled with happiness and laughter! I hope that your dreams and wishes come true too!
Everyday I'm still learning, at least I'm less hard on myself now... but most importantly for me is not let comparison steal our joy!
Have a fab week!
x.o.x.o
TYSM Sandee. You are so right about the comparison issue; it really can be a joy stealer xx

DeleteGoodness!! I love all of these proverbs and sayings that you've posted Vanessa! i've learned so much in this life that it would fill a book!! One of them is to be kind to yourself. So often, we judge ourselves the hardest and we punish ourselves in ways we don't realize.
ReplyDeletep.s. And Happy Belated Birthday you wonderful lady!! I hope it was a good one. And thanks for your lovely comment. i look forward to reading where life will take you next!!
TYSM Reese. You are so right, and I am sure being an expat taught you many hard lessons also ;-)
