Being British, I know that the reality of summer afternoons
are sometimes few and far between

That's why my least favourite word is "umbrella!" ;-)
However, when a summer afternoon does arrive, it really
DOES feel like the most beautiful words in the English language.

Vanessa, I love these photos and this post. Not sure I can beat those beautiful words, "summer afternoon" after seeing these. Have a great weekend.

DeleteHi Vanessa, WOW! Those pictures make me want to jump right threw my computer and be where ever those pics are from. Ya know here in RI we get a lot of summer afternoons, and I think we take them for granted. There are so many beautiful words in the English dictionary...laughter, love, etc. I don't know if I could choose one. Someone one once asked me what was the most beautiful sound I've ever heard, and that was easy. I replied... "The sound of my daughter's laughter", but this one's hard. Maybe I would choose the word "Love". Once again you made me reach into my soul and think, and I love that.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend my friend!
Dee, xoxo
TYSM Dee. It's a difficult one isn't it? I imagine the sound of your daughter's laughter is unbeatable ;-)
DeleteTY as always Dee for your lovely comments xx
Such gorgeous images... I'm off dreaming again, really fancy a picnik, but haven't found the perfect park yet...
ReplyDeleteI'm laughing just as I'm reading your 'know when to give up' quote... currently enjoying a glass of red whilst catching up with blogs and after the crazy day I've had...
You have a lovely weekend too!

Hi S' I'm not sure about Greece, but here in Spain the parks are not as lush and green as in the UK. Still haven't found a park that can beat Hyde Park in our wonderful hometown ;-)
DeleteEnjoy that "red" Sweets xx
Oh I really like, 'cosy and 'treats'

DeleteHi Vanessa,
ReplyDeleteLove the image of the truck in the country... want to be there! So pretty. Thanks for the sweet comment about my blog redesign! xo
Hi Vanessa,
ReplyDeleteI am just so touched by your emails to me! This is the first blog post I have looked at post surgery and it was just perfect...a little mini vacation into cyber happiness! I would say my favorite word is 'love' because to me it means so much more than just receiving, but giving of yourself which ultimately brings the most joy. Summer afternoon actually does sound wonderful...until you've had a few kids and a new meaning comes with those words...like loads of laundry from wet towels and bathing suits, whining shouts from the kids of, "I'm starving or I'm bored." Oh summer afternoons...they can be so lovely...but busy as well. Either way, it's all about seeing the positive in every situation right?
Have a wonderful Sunday!
xo

Hi,
ReplyDeleteFinally catching up. Speaking of rain, we had tons of it yesterday. Wow, favorite word in the english dictionary is hard. I love "friend." I hope you are well.
Beautiful photos, Van. I don't think I have one word that I could call my favorite but I do like the words "adore", "darling" and "honey".
ReplyDeletexoxo, A
How I love these wonderful pictures, so warm, soft and inviting. :-) Favorite word? Oh my, um, Poppit, because that's what my man calls me. :-)
ReplyDeleteYour photographs give me such a beautiful. clear sense of the text in this post. Loved the one with the bike and the flower petals. I always wondered if other people had favourite english words and now I know! Mine is mesmerize, i just like how it sounds :)
ReplyDelete"Know when to give up and have a margarita"....love that, I think that's where I am right now!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful images XX
Vanessa, what a beautiful post! The images so perfectly capture the feeling of a summer afternoon ... pass the lemonade please! ;) Wish I could think of words I love better THAN summer afternoon but I can't think of anything. Those are so perfect! If forced to choose I'd probably say Sparkling Sunshine, as a day with sunshine is always so perfect (and Sunshine used to be my nickname given to me by adoring uncles and aunts when I was growing up!). Love your posts, Vanessa. Have a lovely week!

Oh, this had me smiling at the end!!! So funny!
ReplyDeleteI think I love the word...."sunshine". It makes me think of a sunny day or a sunny disposition. Both of which I love.
Have a wonderful day!

Well those are definitely lovely words. I think mine would be "vacation" because well, I guess that doesn't need much explaination, right? :)

ReplyDeleteI remember reading something relevant on this website, which really site seems cool: favoritewords.com, it's relevant here and I think we can connect to each other by using our words. Plus, it's free so probably worth trying.
