I Didn't Know Her But……………..

May 30, 2014

OK, I had planned   a different post for my blog this week. But some
how talking about sparkles and frivolity just didn't feel right for me
this week.

So instead I just want to share 3 minutes
of profound wisdom from one of
my  inspirations.

Two of my favorite quotes ever are below.

The first was  told to me by my Mum when
she realized her days were becoming fewer (even
though she was only 48!)
I had no idea who the author of this quote was (I'm
not sure she did either) until
long afterwards.

A great reminder that sometimes we are striving
for something that is much closer than we
realise

Doing the Can-Can

May 23, 2014

No not really. I'm talking Cannes ;-)
Here are some of the gorgeous gems that
graced the Cannes red carpet.

Julianne Moore, Cannes 2014, Chophard, Emeralds, pink Sapphires, Rubies

Julianne Moore wearing gorgeous Chopard earrings; 44ct
Emeralds, pink Sapphires and Rubies

Bulgari, Cannes 2014, diamonds, Naomi Watts
I so love how Naomi Watts wore her Bulgari serpent necklace back to front

Cheryl Cole, black and white diamonds, De GRISOGONO, Cannes 2014
The gorgeous Cheryl Cole wearing black and white
diamond jewelry from the Gocce Collection by De GRISIGONO

Cannes 2014, purple sapphires, diamonds, de GRISOGONO
Can you believe this is Elvis Presley's Grand-daughter?
No, me neither! Anyway, back to the gems. She is wearing oversized
De GRISOGONO earrings with purple Sapphires and Diamonds

Cannes 2014, Chanel
The quirky Lily Allen in her equally quirky (but gorgeous)
Chanel "bubble" dress. Of course she is accessorizing with
Chanel gems.

Cannes 2014, white gold, diamonds, Chanel
The gorgeous Spanish actress Paz Vega (who was my
neighbor when I first moved to Seville, Spain)
wearing a Zuhar Murad dress and
gems in white gold + diamonds by Chanel

Cannes 2014, Nicole Kidman, Harry Winston
OK, so her film was panned by the critics, but she looked great with
her heavily embellished dress and Harry Winston gems.

Cannes 2014, Sonam Kapoor, Chophard, yellow and white diamonds

Finally the gorgeous Sonam Kapoor wearing a yellow and
white diamond necklace by Chopard.

Hope these choices added some sparkle to you day.
Would love to know which was your fav
(maybe it was one I missed altogether ;-)

La Lewinsky

May 14, 2014

OK, so last week I posted my thoughts
about Monica Lewinsky on my Facebook
page having read about an article
she has just written
for Vanity Fair .

My Facebook discussion got some really
passionate comments especially as I stated that I really felt
sorry for Ms Lewinsky and actually have very little
respect for Hilary Clinton.

Here's why:

* ML was the weakest and youngest link
in the debacle, so it was really easy to throw
her under the bus

*she however was NOT married. Should she have succumbed
to a married man? No. But surely the responsibility lies
with Bill Clinton and not the young impressionable intern

* she could have made millions riding on the back of
that story, but she didn't, and yet she is still vilified and
Bill Clinton is still revered and on the verge of
being made a saint (or so it seems)

*I am not condoning what ML did, but I have less respect
for Hilary Clinton. She blamed all the mistresses (and
let's face it ML wasn't the only one) for
her own political reasons. Isn't that the same as
selling your soul?

Here are some pieces that "could" have
looked good with THAT blue dress ;-)

24k stackable ring set with natural gemstones
Gorgeous stacking ring set

Swarovski crystal almond shaped drop earrings in grey, grey crystal earrings
Almond Swarovski Crystal
Drop Earrings in a gorgeous gun-metal grey.
(when these catch the sun-light they are stunning)

SILVER HAMMERED CHANDELIER HOOP EARRINGS WITH NATURAL GEMSTONES

 Gorgeous Hammered Chandelier Hoops with
Lemon Topaz, Peridot and Aquamarine natural gemstones

My advice to Ms Lewinsky

I would love to hear your views however different
to mine they may be ;-)

Every Woman Should Have………………...

May 7, 2014

A woman should have
one old love she can imagine going back to,
and one who reminds her how far she has come.

A woman should have
enough money within her control to
move out and rent a place of her own
even if she never wants to or needs to.

A woman should have
something perfect to wear if the employer
or date of her dreams wants to
see her in an hour

A woman should have
a youth she is content to leave behind.

A woman should have
a past juicy enough that she’s looking
forward to retelling it in her old age.

A woman should have
a set of screwdrivers,
a cordless drill and a black lace bra.

A woman should have
one friend who always makes her laugh
and one who lets her cry.

A woman should have
a good piece of furniture not previoulsy owned
by anyone else in her family.

A woman should have eight matching plates,
wine glasses with stems
and a recipe for a meal
that will make her guests feel honoured.

A woman should have
a feeling of control over her destiny.

Every woman should know
how to fall in love without losing herself.

Every woman should know
how to quit a job,
break up with a lover,
and comfort a friend
without ruining the friendship.

Every woman woman should know
when to try harder….
and when to walk away.

Every woman should know
that she can’t change the length of her calves,
the width of her hips or the nature of her parents.

Every woman should know
that her childhood may not have been perfect……
but it’s over.

Every woman should know
what she would and wouldn’t do for love.

Every woman should know
how to live alone……even if she doesn’t like it.

Every woman should know
whom she can trust, whom she can’t,
and why she shouldn’t take it personally.

Every woman should know
where to go
be it to her best friends kitchen table
or a charming inn in the woods
when her soul needs soothing.

Every woman should know
What she can and can’t accomplish in a day…..
a month……and a year.
(by Maya Angelou)

So Lovelies, is there anything else that
should be on this list?

Would love to hear your thoughts

Be Inspired

Apr 30, 2014

If you have dreams and you are constantly
making excuses, then I urge you to watch this.

This was on Britain's Got Talent a few weeks ago.

When you start watching it, you are probably
thinking exactly what Simon Cowell's face is saying!

DON'T click off before 1:36- this is the turning point
(and you'll miss the fun part ;-)

As always I would love to hear your thoughts

It's All In The Jeans

Apr 24, 2014

Now here's the thing Girlfriends.
I've always been terrified of wearing white jeans.

Yes, my secret is out.

Why?

I always felt it was for the super lithe,
bambi-esque type legs (which I certainly don't have).

I'm not fat, but I am no Eva Longoria.

Also I have always been aware of the white jean
disasters I've seen walking around such as the image below.
Apart from not understanding the fascination with this family,
she just doesn't do white jeans properly for me
(she seems to make everything look trashy-or is that
just my opinion?)

Not a look I wish to emulate
But now I've come to realize that maybe white jeans are
the chic older sister of the blue jean.

Blue jeans are for very relaxed environments
whereas white jeans are more for a smart-casual alternative.

I think they say "I'm a little more sassy
than your average denim wearer".

Michelle Obama is clearly all woman (not waif)
and I think she wears white jeans more than she wears
blue jeans

For me the Queen of White Jeans
has to be Liz Hurley. She's not a stick
insect but I think she gets it right
(and she's more my shape).

I love her Capri version

I think to keep out of "mutton-territory" one needs to avoid
the sparkles and embroidered spangles that some jeans have.
Also perhaps avoid the ripped versions.

I think if you keep it classic chic paired with plain khaki
black, navy and grey you can't go wrong.

Marilyn Worked it With Black

Three pieces that I think will rock your
white jeans if you are keeping everything else
neutral

I would love to hear your views on white jeans in general.
Do you, or don't you?

Now the next job is to find a pair that
flatter and don't make my rear end look like
someones over stuffed sofa!

Happy Birthday VB!!!

Apr 17, 2014

OK, so Mrs B celebrates turning 40 today and there
are so many reasons why I have so much respect for this woman.

She faced some of her harshest critics from the UK, and yet she
just kept her head down and kept on keeping on.

Here are some other reasons I respect here so much.
Don't you think she looks so pretty without the scowl? This is my
fav picture of her.

"Most people never become this successful in their second careers.
She is an exception in every sense of the word-in her personality
in everything"
.
(Karl Largerfeld)

I love that she could have just sat back, become a
footballers wife and nothing else. But she has really had
to strive to get respected in the fashion world, as everyone
was just waiting for her to fail. She plugged away
for years and now she seems to have reached her pinnacle.
That's a lesson in success if ever I saw one.

Cheryl Cole in VB

"She had an amazing potential that only certain women have-
such as Diane von Furstenberg. ………She is not a designer like me, but
she has something that I don't have; a unique sense of wearing what
she creates, images of which go round the world and sell it!"

(Roland Mouret)

"Don't underestimate her"
(Anna Wintour)

Jennifer Hudson in VB

"She is spontaneous with a great sense of humor; humble
yet at the same time driven by a healthy ambition. She
is a perfectionist, like everyone who is passionate
about their work"

(Emmanuelle Alt-Editor-in-Chief, Vogue, Paris)

"She is a very sweet woman with a great sense of humor.
You can tell she's passionate about her collections"
(Manolo Blahnik)

Miss "Conscious Uncoupling" in VB

What I personally love about her is that the word "humble" comes up
continuously by people that know her. She has to be one of the most photo
graphed women in the world and yet I have never read of any diva
behavior in any shape or form.

Some say that she knows all the right people hence her success.
I don't agree. You have to do more than "know" the right people,
you have to deliver and she has shown she can deliver through
sheer hard work and fiery ambition.

Oprah wearing VB

She always said she wanted all shapes of women to
wear her clothes and she stayed true to her word.
It wasn't just a marketing ploy

"We're close friends. She's just an amazing woman….
I aspire to be like her some day. She is not
just another celebrity trying to have a clothing line.
She IS fashion and definitely knows what she is talking about"
(Eva Longoria)

Her BFF wearing VB

She recently revealed that she collects crystals to
create positive energy, believes in karma
and works out at 6am five days a week!
(now that is someone disciplined!)
German Vogue in 2010

British Vogue in 2008

"I look at people like Victoria Beckham and
admire them so much……………I don't know how she
can have four kids the perfect brand and an even
more perfect husband".
(Paris Hilton)

She is certainly like Marmite-you either love
her or hate her. I am going with the former.
She doesn't always get things right. She has
had more than her fair share of fashion blunders,
but haven't we all by the time we get to 40.

I would love to hear your views.
