Are You Like Oprah?

"Some women have a weakness for shoes...............
I can go barefoot if necessary. I have a weakness for books" Oprah

I really LOVE this quote. If you ask my friends and family
they are likely to say this quote best sums me up .

Altho' best don't ask my husband about the weakness for bags
which he might add is also a medical condition.

Needless to say I will do anything to get hold of a book
I want to read.... and I mean anything!

How's this for a cosy nook to read in?

This would be my fav reading nook

...or perhaps this one

And yes, I ALWAYS do the above.
I currently have 6 new books on my
bedside table all with the first chapter
read only!

Are books your weakness?

Where's your fav place to read?

What's the last book you bought?

What's the best read so far this year?

Are you a one book at a time girl?

Would love to hear your "bookish" recommendations

  1. No but my husband is, I don't even go round his side of the bed anymore, it's an assault course of piled up books, I now yelp when another one comes in the post.
How are things V, I hope they are a bit calmer.

  2. Awww... yes the written word!! is one of the most beautiful things in the world (though I love my shoes and handbags ..lol..) a book can transport you away. I use to be able to have a couple of books on the go. These days one at a time is my limit ... and yes I do pick up books even when I have a few already waiting on the night stand to be read.

Two great reads I have read this summer were - Surfing in Stilettos - by Carol Wyer -Hilarious read. and Word Intoxication by Ruth Johnston- a poetry and photo book - both are bloggers. I have also been reading books by Doreen Virtue on Angel Healing and books on Chakras and meditation.

Wishing you a fabulous wonderful week-end xo C. (HHL)

  3. As much as I love fashion, I believe that books will last a lifetime and trends barely more than a year, so I prefer investing in good novels instead! Love these cute book nooks,
    Have a lovely weekend sweety!

  4. I am definitely a bibliophile, but since moving house and having to take all my thousands of books with me I realise it has to be culled ruthlessly. Even my kindle has a few hundred on it and I've had it a year. So, I have been donating books left right and centre. My fave place to read is in bed, with a little glass of something within paw's reach. I have loads of books on the go at any one time. My latest one is Voices from The Holocaust and some of my favourite reads this year have been Untold Stories by Alan Bennett, Dry by Augusten Burroughs , Andre Agassi and Marco Pierre White's autobiographies,Virginia Woolf's Diary and loads more. I've currently got Disgrace by J Adler-Olsen, The Bone Bed by Patricia Cornwell,a book on Bob Hope and a collection of Vanity Fair articles on Elizabeth Taylor also on the go. Somebody stop me!!! Have a lovely weekend V! xx

  6. I have the same weakness for books. They're delicious. I read many at the same time and have found I dislike reading on my kindle. It has to be the cloth and paper...I love to read anywhere its quiet.

    1. I totally agree. I still can't get used to a Kindle. I love paper....the smell, the feel...everything about having a new book in my sweaty paws x

  7. Can we have it all? :)

Just bough PARIS, A love story by Kati Marton and I'm almost finished with Beautiful Ruins.

I usually read in bed at night. I'd like one of those reading nooks and more time in the day to just sit and read! I don't own a kindle.. I like the feel of books.

    Enjoy your weekend.

  8. Sadly I don't have time for blogging and reading so reading has been put on the back burner. I used to read a lot years ago when I worked in London and could do so on the commute. I like anything funny or spy novels. I remember the first Bridget Jones book for belly laughs on the train, I got some weird looks!

  9. Hey V, I do love books, which is why I don't own a kindle or anything... but there isn't any room for more books now! Need to start building a wall to ceiling case! fun!

I used to read a lot going into work and home... but now it's whenever I find a quiet moment...

Hope you're well love! Big hugs,

    1. I only blog once a week Sharon, so that's my reason for having time to read. I also time-manage how much time I spend on other blogs and social media otherwise I can lose hours. Lets not even talk about PInterest ;-) xx

  11. Yes! Books are definitely my weakness. :-) I love reading while I'm waiting in the car for my man - it's so quiet and there's nothing to distract me. :-) The last book is actually three: Herbs, Building, and Pasta. :-) Best read this year would have to be "Dance of the Dissident Daughter" because it freed me to build my own faith and world view. I always, always have numerous books on the go - just like you. :-)

  12. Adored this post! In my perfect world, you can have an abundance of both books and shoes [and bags]!!! I’ll read pretty much anything, and when I say read, I mean devour (I have been known to finish books in a few hours). My favourite read this year was The Hunger Games series.

  13. I haven't read that series yet. Do you recommend it?

  15. Hi Vanessa, I LOVE books! All kinds of books. I could spend hrs in a library or book store. I have thought about switching to electronic book reading, but haven't done so (yet) because I truly love having a "real" book in my hands. I know I would miss that. I also love the covers of books. Right now I am reading " Barack and Michelle" (Obama) Portrait of an American Marriage. Just bought the book two days ago and I'm almost finished. Great book! I actually brought this book over to the stove with me yesterday when I was cooking, LOL reading at the stove. That's how I get when I can't put a book down.
    Hope all is well Vanessa
    Dee xoxo
